What’s Happening with the 7/8/9s – week 22!

The newsletter below was dictated by the 7/8/9s and composed by Sami.

Hello Families!

Today is the 100th day of school! YAY! It’s awesome! We have been working so hard to get our museum ready! And we are happy for our families to come!

We worked on our 100 projects a lot this week. It was hard when we wrote about it and did our projects but we finished. Then we set up the museum and it was fun. We had to pick categories to organize the museum. At first it was confusing but then we figured it out. Collages was one category, beads was another, there were things made out of connecting cubes, there are 2 block structures, and some buildings. There are also card projects that people did and things that are hung up, like 100 snowflakes and Nathaniel and Kelley’s marbles, and Chloe’s finger knitting.

Check out this special post about our museum of 100!

“We finished 100 day projects. Me and Cian and Colby hung up a sign downstairs.”

“I made an alien head. It was hard but it turned out good using 10 of each color.”

“I made a 100 project with 100 blocks. It fell down before the 100 museum opened. I fixed it.”

This week we continued to weave with Stacy. It was easy to mess up but we did it! We like weaving because you can relax with a pillow while you weave and you can just chill. It helps you stay calm and focused.

“I did weaving with Stacy it was easy to mess up but we did it. Some parts I messed up but it was fun.”

In writing this week we continued to work on our story about the Equinox hike. We all have jobs to write and draw different parts of the story. It was fun to remember the hike. We’re adding lots of detail. The book will be finished after we get back from break then we can share it at town meeting.

In reading this week a new book club started reading a book called “Marvin Redpost: Kidnapped At Birth”. So far we read up to chapter 2 and we will read chapter 3 next week. We LOVE book club because we get to read a fun book and talk about it with our friends.

On Tuesday this week we celebrated Chinese New Year with Chloe’s mom and also with Mario in Mandarin. We received TWO red envelopes which is really lucky. One was from Chloe’s mom, it had a chocolate coin inside and one from Mario with Chinese money inside. In Mandarin we made Chinese drums – they were gold and red which are lucky colors for the New Year. With Chloe’s mom we made Chinese dragons and then we had mini parade around the school with our drums and dragons and it was fun. Chloe’s mom gave us mandarin oranges and fortune cookies and then at the end we got fortune fish which were VERY cool. The fortune fish goes on your hand and what it’s movements do tell you your fortune, the funniest one was if the head and tail both move, you are in love. We want to say thank you to Chloe’s mom and also to Mario for bringing us such special treats to celebrate the Chinese New Year!

“It was Chinese New Year we made drums in Mandarin. Chloe’s mom came and we made Chinese dragons it was so, so fun.”
