What’s happening with the 7/8/9s – week 26!

As always, this newsletter was dictated by the 7/8/9s and typed by Sami! Enjoy!

Hello Families,

We had an awesome week. For example we had the best sunny days for outside time and we had the best work time like building with blocks and connecting cubes and sewing.

“Me and Kelley played football! It was fun because we kicked the ball.”

“On Wednesday Eden and Matthew pushed me down when we were wrestling it hurt. I was limping a lot.”

“This week it was thundering and lightning during outside time. We were screaming so we went inside.”

In math this week we started taking about “Things that come in groups”. We made a list of things that come in groups like 2 wheels on a dirt bike, 4 wheels on a car, 4 legs on a cat, 6 soda cans in a pack, 10 dimes in a dollar, 12 pencils in a box, and lots of other things that we thought of in the world. We also started learning about multiples. We made multiple strips which showed the multiples of numbers. Multiples are the answers when you multiply. We counted by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s and we wrote down all of the numbers in order on a long strip of paper. Some people noticed patterns in the numbers. Like Noah did something really cool with 9s. He figured out that all of the digits in the multiples for 9 add up to 9, like in 18, 8 + 1 = 9! Then we used the multiples to color in 0-99 charts and notice more patterns! Some patterns made a straight line stripe design, some went in a diagonal line over the whole chart and some just had a few spaces colored in. It was cool!

“We did multiples in math this week. We did multiples strips they are good. Multiples are when you count by a number like 3.”

In reading this week we have been reading the book “Poppy” by Avi. We have been drawing pictures about important events in poppy and then we put them in order on the wall. That’s called sequencing. We also built the setting of Poppy out of blocks one day. We like Poppy because it’s very exciting and it feels like it breaks the rules. The characters are brave and they are also funny. It makes us think a lot about what’s going to happen next and why the characters do things. We found out that there are more books about Poppy and we’re going to start another one next week!

“We made a Poppy structure we did New Barn with blocks it took a while to make it but it was fun too.”

We had a lot of good work times this week. We did a bunch of cool block buildings. We did a tall building that had a ramp on it that came down, a ball went through a bunch of tubes and at the other end it knocked down a bunch of blocks, that was in Brittany’s room Matthew, Noah, Eden, Will, and Kelley all worked on it. On Friday Matthew found a puppet inside of one of the ball ramp tubes! One other day Matthew, Nathaniel, Kelley, Noah, and Will worked in the blue room and we used all of the blocks in our classroom to make a big mall that even had a pool. It was awesome. Some people like Cian, Matthew, Noah, Addy, Roo, and Bella did sewing in work time. They were working on stuffed animals.

“In worktime this week me, Eden, Willem, Matthew, and Noah worked on a ball run coming off of a building. It was fun and it worked.”

“We used all the blocks in our classroom. We are so happy! It is so AWESOME I love blocks.”

(Sorry this video is sideways – I’m working on fixing that!)

We’ve also been writing stories about our animals. They’re taking a long time but we think they’ll turn out really well!
