What’s happening with the 7/8/9s – week 30!

This blogpost was dictated to Sami by the 7/8/9s.

Dear Families,

What’s up? We had a good week this week! We got to go to Ben and Jerry’s for Free Cone Day and ate yummy ice cream! Lucky us! We went for a walk to say thank you to John at Nature’s Market with the 5/6s and 6/7s and then Brittany and Sami suddenly said “We’re going to free cone day!” Some people were surprised but other people said they guessed it! It was delicious.

“Matthew, Noah, Chloe, Kelley, Cian, Nathaniel, Will, and the 5/6s & 6/7s went to Ben and Jerry’s for free cone day! Teachers too.”

“On Tuesday we went to the Free Cone (Day). I got chocolate ice cream. I did not get the cone that had the point.”

We did poetry this week. Poetry is a thing that you write. It’s mostly about feelings. Sami put poems on the board and we read them together, and we told Sami what we noticed. We looked for rhyming and other patterns in the poem. We learned for rhyme patterns in poems they use letters like ABAB or AABB to show the rhymes. We also looked for repetition in the poems that is when the poet repeats the same word multiple times like in a poem we read about spring, the poet said spring again and again. Also we learned about alliteration, that’s when the same sounds repeat in the poem. Poetry is hard but fun!

At work time Matthew and Willem did blocks and a lot of people played knock hockey like Noah, Kelley, Thome, Will, Cian, Colby, and Matthew. Grandpop Sullivan brought in the knock hockey game and a quarter game that he made. They were really fun. Some people played dramatic play in Brittany’s room this week like Chloe and Bella and Addy. There were some cool block structures in our classroom too. We built a ball run and the Statue of Liberty. Chloe has been working on an animal family book of drawings and her animal story too.

“This week we made a block structure. We made a Statue of Liberty and a ball run and I made a home. It was cool. Willem, Matthew, Kelley, Nathaniel, and Noah did blocks.”

“We built a ball run it is very cool. It goes off the shelf and it works. There is a part where it drops on to the other part of the ball run.”

“My grandpop brought a game in that he built and we played with it at work time. It was fun.”

In math this week we were still working on patterns and multiplication. We had to make patterns with cubes and then write them in our math books, then our math books told us to think forward and write down number patterns. We also had to predict the numbers that would go along with certain colors if the pattern got longer. It was pretty easy to predict because we’re good at skip counting.

In reading we’re still reading Poppy and Rye. We’re coming up with ideas and predictions about what is going to happen in the story by writing in our notebooks. We’re making guesses about what’s happening and seeing it we’re right when we read on. It’s a good story.

In writing we finished our animal books finally! It was fun and hard. We had fun doing it and a couple people had a hard time but now it’s mostly done. All some people need to do is type their words. We got to use the ipads and the computer to type our stories in google docs. A lot of people are also just practicing typing on the keyboarding program like Cian and Matthew, they’ve been working on it a lot.

Now it’s time for Spring Break! Nathaniel and Noah started their breaks early, we hope you’re having fun in Florida guys! See everyone in a week!

Love, The 7/8/9s
