Our trip to see some real-life heroes–Manchester Police Officers & Firefighters–was a huge success!
Officer Matteson and his Lieutenant greeted us in the lobby for our tour of the Police Station. We saw the dispatcher’s work space,
an officer’s desk,
and the books with all the laws.
In the conference room, Officer Matteson showed us his handcuffs as well as some of the other tools that are a part of his uniform.
As you can imagine, many of the children were curious about his gun. Office Matteson spent some time talking with the children about gun safety. He made sure the children understood that guns are dangerous and that if they ever see one, they should NEVER touch it, but should go and find a grown-up immediately. He also taught the children about calling 9-1-1 in emergency situations.
We ended our visit by checking out one of the cruisers.
Thank you Officer Matteson & Lieutenant!
Next stop was the Fire Station where we met Firefighter Bill.
He showed us some of the trucks,
and even let the kids sit in the driver’s seat!
Thank you, Firefighter Bill!
In other exciting news, the children drew their ideas of what our “Little Free Library” should look like,
one friend found the courage to jump off the bench to try and reach a branch,
and we got to play with some cool new tunnels.
